Frequently Asked Questions
Summer Music Camp is an amazing, two-week music camp with programming for children and youth aged 5 to 18 years. The camp runs from August 14 to 25, excluding weekends, at Islington United Church, 25 Burnhamthorpe Road, Toronto, Ontario.
The camp offers an early childhood music experience for children aged 5 to 7 years, and instrumental (woodwinds, brass or percussion) opportunities for those aged 8 to 18 years. Youth entering Grade 10 and up are invited to participate in the Leader in Training program.
Summer Music Camp includes three program streams:
· an early childhood music experience for children aged 5 to 7 years
· an instrumental (woodwinds, brass or percussion) experience for those aged 8 to 18 years
· a Leader in Training (LIT) program for those entering Grade 10 and up
There are also fun electives, including sports, games, and arts and crafts. Camp concludes with a final showcase concert and a super-fun waterpark trip.
The early childhood music program is an opportunity for young learners to be introduced to the foundations of music using fun and creative approaches. Children will sing, enjoy fun games, explore engaging percussion instruments and even learn to play the recorder!
Those selecting the instrumental program will select a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument of their choice to study for two weeks. No experience is necessary! Beginners are welcomed. Experienced students will have opportunities to participate in advanced study.
Youth entering Grade 10 and up are invited to apply for the Leader in Training (LIT) program. The LIT program is designed to offer both musical instruction and opportunities for growth through specialized programming, leadership responsibilities and mentoring. All LITs should be available to attend an afternoon or evening orientation, training and social session on August 11 (details to be confirmed).
The day will include the main program stream, camp chorus, electives, two healthy snacks daily (provided by us), and lunch and outdoor time.
The elective offerings change each year. In past years, electives have included arts and crafts, sports and games, other instrument instrumental learning (handbells, violin, ukulele, guitar) and musical theater. On the first day of Summer Music Camp, campers will be able to choose several electives of interest to them.
Jason Locke and Brianna Raakman are co-directors of Summer Music Camp and will be responsible for its operation. They will be supported by a team of excellent staff and volunteers.
For campers, the early-bird rate is $450 until July 1, 2022. After that, the regular rate of $500 applies. For LITs, the program rate is $100.
