Frequently Asked Questions

Summer Music Camp is an amazing, two-week music camp with programming for children and youth aged 5 to 18 years. The camp runs from August 8 to 19, excluding weekends, at Islington United Church, 25 Burnhamthorpe Road, Toronto, Ontario, .

An amazing, two-week music camp that runs from Monday to Friday, August 8 to 12 and August 15 to 19. The camp offers an early childhood music experience for children aged 5 to 7 years, and either vocal or instrumental (woodwinds, brass or percussion) opportunities for those aged 8 to 18 years.

Summer Music Camp includes three program streams:

· an early childhood music experience for children aged 5 to 7 years

· a choice of a vocal or instrumental (woodwinds, brass or percussion) experience for those aged 8 to 18 years

· a Leader in Training (LIT) program for those aged 15 to 18 years

There are also fun electives, including sports, games, and arts and crafts. Camp concludes with a final showcase concert and a super-fun waterpark trip.

The early childhood music program is an opportunity for young learners to be introduced to the foundations of music using fun and creative approaches. Children will sing, enjoy fun games, explore engaging percussion instruments and even learn to play the recorder!

Those selecting the vocal program will work on large and small group singing as well as singing with and without accompaniment. There may be opportunities for movement and other creative projects as the program unfolds.

Those selecting the instrumental program will select a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument of their choice to study for two weeks. No experience is necessary! Beginners are welcomed. Experienced students will have opportunities to participate in advanced study.

Youth aged 15 to 18 years are invited to apply for the Leader in Training (LIT) program. The LIT program is designed to offer both musical instruction and opportunities for growth through specialized programming, leadership responsibilities and mentoring.

The day will include the main program stream, camp chorus, electives, two healthy snacks daily (provided by us), and lunch and outdoor time.

The elective offerings change each year. In past years, electives have included arts and crafts, sports and games, other instrument instrumental learning (handbells, violin, ukulele, guitar) and musical theater. On the first day of Summer Music Camp, campers will be able to choose several electives of interest to them.

Jason Locke and Cynthia Smithers are co-directors of Summer Music Camp and will be responsible for its operation. They will be supported by a team of excellent staff and volunteers.

For campers, the early-bird rate is $450 until July 1, 2022. After that, the regular rate of $500 applies. For LITs, the program rate is $200.

If you have multiple children/youth in the same family, please inquire about our special family rates. Full and partial scholarships are available to families in need of financial assistance.
