Funerals
"In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us and we are not alone..."
Celebrate the life of a loved one in a sacred and supportive environment that invites family and friends to connect and remember; where every detail is handled with care and respect. Have the experience of a “Good” Funeral.
Our Commitment to You
At Islington United we make space for people to be honoured and their life celebrated after they die. Funerals are a time when we remember, we grieve, we laugh and cry, we comfort one another in our sorrow, we say good-bye and we carry that person’s light and legacy into the future. It is sacred time and an important time to gather as community, light a candle in honour of your loved one, share stories, hear words of hope and faith, and receive a blessing. It is imperative to us that the service honours the loved ones wishes, uses language and readings that are connected to the person who died, and sets those present at ease.

Obituaries
An obituary tells the story of your loved one. Sharing memories and asking questions about someone near the end of their life is a gift you can give to them. They can share with you memories of being a child, a teenager, working in the world, family, pastimes, travel, things they’ve learned in life, things that really matter. Don’t miss the chance to ask something you could have. To learn how to write an obituary, check out this article.
The Role of Music
Music helps us to remember and to heal. Our team will work with your family appropriate music of all varieties, chosen in consultation with your family, into this time of remembrance.
Our team includes a pianist/ organist, and a soloist to support the people gathered. Additional soloists or instrumentalists are available upon request.
Reception and Gathering Spaces
Utilize our welcoming spaces for receptions and gatherings, providing a comforting environment for family and friends to experience warm hospitality.
Islington United Church provides funeral receptions as an act of Christian service and hospitality; they are funded through contributions received from a loved one’s family at the time of the service or shortly after.
Legacy & Planned Gifts
Each person has a unique light. When you or a loved one dies, your legacy exists in those you’ve loved, and through the story of your life. Making a plan to designate financial gifts to support the things you or your loved one valued is also part of that legacy. Please take the time to pray about and consider making final gifts that keep on giving. If you’d like to make a plan, please email ministry@islingtonunited.org.
When we support what our loved ones lived for, they live on.
