Join Joanne Stenerson as we dive into the books of Jonah and Ruth throughout the fall! This IN PERSON bible study takes place on Mondays, from 6:15 – 7:15pm in the Reception Room, starting September 14, 2026. About The Study
Jonah & Ruth: God’s Love for the Outsider
This 2-in-1 thematic study explores one of Scripture’s most compelling themes: God’s love for the outsider—even the enemy. Through two short but powerful Old Testament books, participants are invited to reflect on inclusion, mercy, and the call to live out God’s steadfast love. Jonah and Ruth offer two very different stories—a satire and a romance—yet both reveal profound truths about God’s character and our response to others.
Jonah (Sep. 14, 21, 28, Oct. 5)
The book of Jonah uses humor and exaggeration to challenge God’s people to confront their attitudes toward outsiders. Through the reluctant prophet, the story asks a timeless question: if God extends mercy beyond our boundaries, are we willing to do the same?

Ruth (Oct. 19, 26, Nov. 2, 9, 16)
Ruth offers a beautiful portrait of life shaped by hesed—God’s steadfast, loving-kindness. Through ordinary acts of loyalty and compassion, this story reveals how God works through people to bring about redemption and belonging.

About The Kerygma Program
The Kerygma Program is an adult Bible study ministry designed to help people engage Scripture with confidence, depth, and imagination. Used by congregations across many Christian traditions, Kerygma studies invite participants to explore the Bible actively—learning together in ways that deepen understanding, strengthen faith, and build Christian community.
Founded in a congregational setting, Kerygma provides carefully structured Bible study resources that take Scripture seriously, welcome a wide range of perspectives, and encourage thoughtful discussion rather than prescribed conclusions.
Kerygma groups are led, not taught.
Leaders serve as facilitators—learners among learners—guiding conversation, reflection, and discovery.
Why “Kerygma”?
Kerygma is a Greek word meaning “proclamation” or “message.” In the New Testament, it refers to the proclamation of the gospel—the good news of God in Jesus Christ.
We use the word Kerygma to describe the message of the whole Bible. The biblical story begins in Genesis and unfolds throughout Scripture. Kerygma Bible studies invite participants to engage that story thoughtfully, faithfully, and in community.
What Makes Kerygma Different
Kerygma Bible studies are inductive and discussion-based. Participants prepare individually using the Resource Book, then come together to explore Scripture through discussion, reflection, and shared insight.
Rather than passively receiving information, participants actively engage the biblical text and take responsibility for their own learning—enriching the experience for the entire group.

Bible Study for the Life of the Church
The Kerygma Program emphasizes biblical theology rather than promoting a single confessional perspective. Scripture is studied as a whole, using the best available scholarly tools to illuminate the Bible in its original historical and literary contexts.
At the same time, Kerygma studies are designed for the life of the church—not the classroom alone. Participants are encouraged to remain curious, thoughtful, and open to discovery as they explore how Scripture continues to shape faith, worship, service, and community.
The Bible—heard, read, studied, and proclaimed—has always been central to the life of God’s people. Kerygma was created to help congregations rediscover Bible study as an engaging and transformative practice for adults.
