Film Screening: Reel Injun

November 14, 2025 at 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm

Join Us for Film Night on November 14!

On Friday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m., the Right Relations Circle and the Anti-Racism Working Group will co-sponsor the movie Reel Injun, by Cree Canadian filmmaker Neil Diamond. The film explores the portrayal of Indigenous peoples in Hollywood cinema and the stereotypical images that continue to reverberate on our collective discourse.

Jesse Wente, well-known for two decades as a columnist at CBC Radio’s Metro Morning and an award-winning author of the National Bestseller Unreconciled: Truth and Indigenous Resistance, will moderate the evening, and the Very Rev. Carmen Lansdowne, former Moderator of the United Church of Canada, will join us to welcome Jesse that night.

A Novel Spot bookstore will be on hand with Jesse’s books for purchase, including his new children’s book Danger Eagle that will launch in November.

Childcare is available from 6:30pm-8:30pm in the form of our Board Game Cafe Program in the youth room, after which point, children will need to rejoin their caregiver in the sanctuary.

Please help us fill the Sanctuary by sharing our poster on your social media network. The poster can be found and transmitted from IUC’s Facebook and Instagram.
