A Note from Micol

I am looking forward to joining with you online this Sunday.

I am a United Church minister currently serving at Grace United Church in Hanover, Ontario.  I live with my wife, cat and dog in Harriston (one hour north of Guelph and Waterloo). I previously served at the Allenford-Park Head Pastoral Charge (a two-point charge near Owen Sound) and St. Paul’s United Church in New Liskeard (northeastern Ontario). My wife Jessica is the minister at Harriston United Church and I am proud to be “Uncle Tall” to my three nephews and niece.

In 2012, at the age of 31, I took up running beginning with huffing and puffing (and cursing) my way through a couch to 5KM run. The beauty of running outside (even in -25C northern Ontario winters) stayed with me as my runs got longer and I developed a love for endurance running.

In 2016 I took on a new challenge and ran my first marathon (42.2 km), which has became a yearly habit. In 2019 I decided to push myself a little further and completed a 50km ultra-marathon.

Endurance running has fed my love of playing outdoors and exploring, helped me through difficult times, and given me a lot of time to reflect on life and my faith. I have run by the Globe Theatre and through an ancient market in London England, watched the sun rise from the rim of the Grand Canyon, heard beavers working away in the early morning, gotten to know my own neighbourhood better, and experienced God’s presence along the way.

I look forward to exploring with you the ways in which the moments of endurance in our life are sacred times.
