Children and Youth Ministry Coordinator

Islington United Church believes that Children and Youth Ministry is an integral part of our mission, vision and values. The Children and Youth Ministry Coordinator is charged with ministerial responsibilities. They are expected to give their best always, to be responsible in the discharge of their duties, to have respect for the congregation and its expressions of faith, and to participate fully in the programs with which they are associated.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
This is a paid contract position of up to 10 hours per week under the oversight of the Lead Minister.  
Coordinate the schedules and duties of contract staff and volunteers for the effective implementation of the weekly Sunday morning faith formation program, the periodic Youth Group program, and special church events
Deliver weekly Sunday morning faith formation programming, including Godly Play programming to children in JK (ages 3–4) to grade 6 and toddler ministry  (Specialized Godly Play training will be provided.)
Plan, deliver and evaluate Junior Youth Group programming
Assist with weekly Thursday evening basketball and/or arts program
Lead and assist with special church events (e.g., Christmas Eve), Epic Islington events, and summer camp
 

Qualifications/Requirements
Active member of a community of faith
Must be at least 18 years of age of good reputation
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent communication skills, especially with children and youth, other staff and volunteers
Skilled and compassionate listener who shows respect for others
Flexible and open-minded; friendly, patient with good relational skills with children, youth and adults
Understands the issues relevant to youth and young families
Deals effectively with emergency situations; is sensitive to the observance of proper boundaries
Must provide a current police records check with vulnerable sector screening upon offer of employment
 

Education/Experience
Demonstrated and relevant experience with children and youth

The Toddler Ministry Staff Associate is charged with early childhood and faith formation responsibilities.  They are expected to give their best always, to be responsible in the discharge of their duties, to have respect for the congregation and its expressions of faith, and to participate fully in the programs with which they are associated.
 

Duties and Responsibilities
This is a paid contract position of four hours per week under the oversight of the Lead Minister and direction of the Children and Youth Ministry Coordinator.  
Deliver weekly Sunday morning play-based toddler ministry, 8:45 am – 12:45 pm
Incorporate Godly Play principles upon completion of Godly Play training in 2019
Plan, deliver and evaluate toddler ministry programming including circle time, music, and puppetry
Assist children in child-directed play
Organize space and materials before and after each service
Lead and assist with special church events (e.g., Christmas Eve), Epic Islington events, etc.
 

Qualifications/Requirements
Active member of a community of faith
Must be at least 16 years of age of good reputation
Excellent communication skills, especially with toddlers and children, parents, other staff and volunteers
Skilled and compassionate listener who shows respect for others
Flexible and open-minded; friendly, patient with good relational skills with children, youth and adults
Understands the issues relevant to youth and young families
Deals effectively with emergency situations; is sensitive to the observance of proper boundaries
Attend Godly Play training January 12, February 9, March 9, 2019
Basic first aid certification and successful completion of a baby-sitting program are assets
Must provide a current police records check with vulnerable sector screening upon offer of employment

Recreational Program Staff Associate

Islington United Church believes that Children and Youth Ministry is an integral part of our mission, vision and values.  The Recreational Program Staff Associate is charged with youth program and outreach responsibilities.  They are expected to give their best always, to be responsible in the discharge of their duties, to have respect for the congregation and its expressions of faith, and to participate fully in the programs with which they are associated.
 

Duties and Responsibilities
This is a paid contract position of four hours per week under the direction of the Youth Drop-in Coordinator and oversight of the Lead Minister.  
Deliver weekly youth basketball programming each Thursday, 4:30 – 8:30 pm
Engage in support and mentorship of youth and young adults
Support Youth Drop-in Coordinator in maintaining a fun and engaging atmosphere
Provide limit setting and de-escalation tools for conflict
