This past week, we invited the Islington community to engage in our week of guided prayer. Through our theme, rooted in God, Growing in Faith, we explored our spiritual growth in unique ways such as walking the labyrinth, meditation, and praying with others. We ending are week by praying into our garden during Seedy Sunday.
In worship, we considered what does it take for a seed to grow? Watch the video here to see us consider the question together.
You cannot simply plant a seed and walk away and expect life to happen. You need to ensure it is planted in a place that can get good sunlight. You must water it just the right amount. You must ensure you give it space to grow so it won’t be overtaken by weeds. You must provide rich soil. Then, you will see your seeds grow.
And yet, there are thousands of forests with hundreds of thousands of trees and moss and plants and animals with no one tending to it but God. We can trust God to do the watering, provide the sunlight and the rich soil. If all we do is plant the seeds, who knows what kind of miracle can sprout out of them with God’s good gardening.
We got to be a part of this planting on Seedy Sunday where we helped the Giving Gardeners plant seeds for the first crops of the season.
The practice of coming together to start this process brings such joy. Mixing soil, poking the hole, planting the seed, carefully adding the soil, and giving it some water. We planted hundreds of seeds in a hour!
Thank you to everyone who participated in this day, who made soup for us, who planted seeds, and those who will continue to nurture their growth.
How are you planting seeds in your life? Are you trusting in God to help them grow?
