Like many people, you may be an artist of some sort – whether you describe yourself as such or not. Maybe you write, knit or sculpt. Maybe you like to put your own twist on a recipe, or make a photo album of the year in review. In many ways, each of us can have a hand in bringing something to life that inspires hope, joy, and beauty.

Last evening, we got to share in praising God as a community at Resonance. This ministry has a commitment to supporting artist in our time of worship together. Over the years, we have had dancers, sculptures, painters, and more participate in worship with us, and this month we had a special treat!

Jake Wiseman, our resident drummer who is also a songwriter, debuted two new songs, and talked about his inspiration in writing them. Jake has only been writing music for about a year, but has been inspired by scripture to create music as praise.

We also got to hear from Jake’s sister-in-law, Brooklyn, who created the artwork for his album. Both of their art was inspired by scripture, particularly the Psalms of Praise. We reflected on creating as an expression of praise to THE Creator.

As a community, we learned Jake’s songs and sang together and they songs from this evening will be released as live recordings on his new EP. We are so glad we could be a part of supporting Jake on his creative journey.

Islington is a space where we can offer praise in many ways and we believe  art is a language in which we can offer worship. Throughout this evening, we talked about ways we can make the worship space wider in terms of way we praise, ways we express God and who we understand God to be, and ways we can feel praise in our lives.

All are welcome to join us for our next resonance at 5:30 pm on February 2 for dinner and worship.
