This week F Is for Friendship from Sara Jewell’s Alphabet of Faith finds us on Poverty Awareness Sunday. I am grateful to welcome a friend, Rev. Alexa Gilmour, formerly of Windermere United Church, who is now the Director of the Stone Soup Network. She has an amazing story to tell.
She and I will be leading in worship together, and the service will focus on the Gospel words found in John 15:12-17.
You also have the chance to make a friend by playing a board game together following the service, a version of Monopoly called Broke – fun and education combined.
Or come dressed casually and stay after the service and help our friends get ready for the Rummage Sale by moving boxes from their storage to the rooms for the sale (bring a dolly if you have one).
We need each other. In the words of Sarah Jewell, “We all need that friend who asks hard questions but stays with us as we struggle with the answers, who sees us at our worst but still loves us just as we are, who can forgive us even when we can’t forgive ourselves, who believes in our dreams as much as we do – and encourages us to follow them. Because you know we get by with a little help from our friends.”
With deep gratitude,
Rev. Maya
