This project is dedicated to the Life, Ministry and Mission of Jesus Christ and our shared ministry at Islington United Church.
Welcome, friends, to the Islington United Church Lenten Devotional project.
May these offerings encourage you to develop a personal relationship with our Lord.
When we walk through Lent, we are invited to find ways to deepen our relationship with God.
The practice of following a daily devotional helps us do that. Our daily devotionals are prepared by members of our Faith Community. They represent the diversity that is Islington United Church.
As a congregation we have been looking at what it means to be ‘Alive’ as followers of Jesus. Our Lenten readings come from Chapters 26 to 33 of We Make the Road by Walking by Brian D. McClaren. We can’t wait for you to join us on this journey. The Spirit is up to something, and we get to be part of it together.
For the week of Sunday, March 21 to Saturday, March 27 we have permission to post the daily pages for our annual Week of Guided Prayer*- more information can be found on our church website. The 2021 theme is Rooted in God – Growing in Faith. You’re invited to dig into the scriptures during this week and reflect on their meaning for you at this time. May your faith grow as you set down roots in the fertile soil of God’s Word.

Now a word of thanks for all who answered the call to participate in this project. Choosing to say ‘yes’ is an act of faith; we trust that God, “the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth” will empower us to create as well. We felt humbled and a little vulnerable as we shared some personal insights as well as precious stories about our faith journeys. We thank our leadership team for their encouragement, support and participation. Most importantly, we give thanks to God “who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine.”(Ephesians 3:15, 20 NRSV)
Together may we call on God to guide our footsteps through this time –
Generous in love – God, give grace!
Huge in mercy – wipe out my bad record …
I have been out of step with you for a long time …
Tune me into foot-tapping songs,
set these once broken bones to dancing …
God, make a fresh start in me,
shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.
Psalm 51 verses 1, 6, 8,10. The Message (MSG).
