A Message from Rev. Maya Landell (August 28, 2020)

Hello Friends:

n September, our whole congregation will join in reading We Make the Road by Walking: A Year-Long Quest for Spiritual Formation, Reorientation, and Activation by Brian D. McLaren.

This book offers everything you need to explore what a difference an honest, living, growing faith can make in our world today. It also puts tools in our hands to create a life-changing learning community. Islington has a legacy of learning and growing; this resource will be a guide and an inspiration to keep us together when we can’t be together physically. We will not be alone on this journey, as we will be joined by other congregations and clergy who were ready for a step out in faith.

The 52 weekly readings can each be read aloud in 10 to 12 minutes and offer insightful reflections and transformative practices. Organized around the traditional church year, these readings give an overview of the whole Bible and will guide an individual or a group of friends through a year of rich study, interactive learning, and personal growth.

Worship, meditations, Bible studies and music meditations will focus on the weekly themes. You are invited to ask a friend to read with you and reflect on the questions for each chapter. The author of the book, Brian McLaren, will be preaching this week during worship. What a great way to step out together in faith.

A Novel Spot Bookshop in Humbertown has copies of the book for $21; please support a local business novelspot.ca

This is a book to keep on your shelf; there are a few copies of this book in the church library or, if you know anyone who needs assistance, please contact office@islingtonunited.org. Please consider making a donation towards this project, or buying a copy for another person. Looking forward to this journey.
