A Message from Rev. Maya Landell (July 24, 2020)

Remember: Jesus said come to me all you who are weary and I will give you rest.

Dear Friends,
It is with a tender heart that I write my Friday message to our church family. Ransford Chambers died peacefully in hospital yesterday at noon. We have lost a friend, an encourager, and a man of deep faith — one who taught us about resilience and love. So many people have called Ransford a gentleman, and this quote resonated with me:
“A gentleman is one who puts more into the world than he takes out.”
George Bernard Shaw
We have all been blessed to be alive when Ransford was in the world.
There will be a private family funeral service on Friday, July 31 at 11 am at Islington United. This service will be live-streamed (details to follow), so everyone is welcome to join online. There will also be an option to join by phone.
During the service, please light a candle at home to be connected through Christ’s light to Jackie, Carol, Natalie and Matthew. Even when we cannot be together in person, we can be together in heart and spirit.
Please post condolences online at Yorke Chapel (Turner and Porter). Memorial donations in honour of Ransford are to go to the work of Islington United Church (online gift, e-transfer to the office@islingtonunited.org, or cheque mailed to the church office).
It will be our first time since the building has been closed to do a private family service and the Chambers family has graciously been willing for it to be an opportunity to learn.

On Thursday, July 30 at 6 pm we will be gathering those from our faith community who have lost their mothers during the past few months. It is a private service with two to three people from each family attending. We are grateful to the M&P committee, the Facilities team, the Hospitality committee, the A&E team and those working on the “new normal” policies and procedure for helping us put everything in place to make this a safe and meaningful experience for all involved. Thank you for honouring us and following the government policies of maintaining safe space while we remain in Stage 2.
Please hold the following families in your prayers:
Cynthia Cousins – Lillian “Jen” Cousins
Lynda Graham – Betty Sanders
Val and John Greenfield – Anne Lowson Greenfield nee Ried
Lorraine Methven – Aileen Maude Murray
Jane Anne Murray – Sheila Jane Murray
Beth, Rachel and Emily Pollock – Joyce Baker
Mary Jane Stowe – Ruth Stowe
