Daniel in Exile

A Message from Rev. Maya Landell

Last Sunday after church, Amy Crawford, one of our Voluntary Associate Ministers, lead our Godly Play storytellers in a refresher course. Amy shared how she greets the circle of children by lighting the rainbow-coloured Christ candle each week in the name of the One who did such amazing things and said such wonderful things that people just had to follow him. She blesses them with these words of greeting:

“We light a rainbow candle at Islington because we believe that God loves everyone, no matter what they look like, no matter where they’re from, and no matter who they love. At Islington, we share God’s love and welcome with everyone.”

I can’t think of better words of blessing for this Valentine’s Day. This community keeps blessing people with God’s love. When you are deciding how to honour or remember your loved ones this week, you are invited into the generosity of sponsoring a full-colour bulletin in their name ($100 donation). Give the office a call or email office@islingtonunited.org to choose your week. So many gifts of love make this ministry happen.

Here is my Valentine’s gift to you – a poem by Mary Oliver from her book Devotions.

With deep gratitude,
Rev. Maya ox
